Spiritual Output Can Be a Form of Offering (Part 1)

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.” Matthew 13:44

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.” Matthew 13:44

There’s a kind of joy that changes everything. A joy so rooted in the eternal that when you taste it, you gladly give everything else away.

The parable of the hidden treasure reveals a picture of someone who discovers the beauty of God’s kingdom and responds not out of obligation, but overflow. He goes out and doesn’t buy the field out of duty but with joy and excitement because once he’s seen the treasure, he simply could not walk away. As I reflected on this verse, I couldn’t help but think of this parable as a great example of what it would look like for us to live lives anchored in the beauty of God’s kingdom. Where we, too, give all we have, not just in money, but in devotion, energy, and our gifts.

So what does it mean to “buy the field” in real life? What does it mean to not only discover God’s kingdom but to live in it and to take action, to build something that carries that kingdom into the world?

More Than Money

Sometimes we think kingdom impact is only about donations or financial generosity. While giving is powerful and necessary, the invitation runs deeper. God doesn’t just want our wallets; He wants our whole selves, our gifts, our time, our words, and our hands.

We often overlook how spiritual output can be a form of offering. When we design, write, teach, encourage, lead, or serve with intention and surrender, that is faith in action. That is us saying, “God, I give You this field I’ve been cultivating. It’s Yours.”

You may not be called to preach to thousands or fund a major initiative, but maybe you’re called to mentor one person, to start a creative project, or to show up faithfully in your community. In the economy of Heaven, these acts are not small; they are seeds of impact.

A Reflective Invitation

Take a moment to ask:

  • What is my field?

  • What has God placed in my hands, and how can I use it faithfully and joyfully for the sake of His kingdom?
